Tips for Staying Healthy at the Office

Posted: 12 Aug 2021 05:04 PM PDT

With the world getting back into the swing of things you might be going back into the office soon. While you might have a good routine with working from home, that doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your overall wellness. Here are some simple tips to help you stay on top of your health in the office.

Take a break: We know the workplace can be a high paced environment where you feel the need to move from one task to another like a robot but that doesn't have to be the case. Once you finish a task, get up and walk around the office or if you have the opportunity, take a walk outside. This can help reduce stress and gives your mind and body time to relax. In some cases this has been proven to even increase productivity!

Hydrate Hydrate HYDRATE: It can be hard to drink the necessary amount of fluid your body needs during the day, but putting down the soda and picking up the water can help you in more ways than one. Drinking water throughout the day reduces unnecessary calories. Drinking more water will also lead to you going to the bathroom more, which are great mini breaks in your day to help you refocus and tackle the tasks for the day.

Ergonomics Matter: Working all day at the computer can lead to slouching which can result in some serious back issues as well as eye strain. Actively thinking about your posture is a great way to keep on top of it, but you can also get some aids to make it even easier. Getting the proper chair for you is huge and some chairs come with a lumbar support which helps shape your lower back into its more natural, healthier position. Eye strain can be a pain to deal with while working. It can lead to headaches, difficulty focusing, and even light sensitivity. To help with eye strain, keep your screen at an arm's length away. If you can't read your screen from that distance, simply increase your font size to reduce squinting.

Nutrition:This aspect of work life balance is always overlooked. Make sure you're putting good food in your body so you have energy during and after work to do other things. Packing your lunch rather than stopping at the local fast food chain will leave you with a bigger wallet and making you feel more sustained throughout the day. We will be expanding more on this topic in the future of our seven part series, so stay tuned for "nutrition at the office doesn't have to be difficult"

Know Your Limits!: We are all human, and we all deserve breaks sometimes. Having a stretch of long days can wear you down and can end up affecting your work performance. Make sure you're getting enough sleep at night - lack of sleep can gradually have tremendous wear and tear on your body making the work day harder on you to focus and complete tasks. With that, make sure your work day isn't your full day. Leave sometime for you to do the things you love and use it as motivation to get done with your work so you can go and do these things.Having a quick chat with coworkers is also a great way to break up the monotony work can have sometimes. Make sure to not always talk about work too, ask what they plan to do on the weekends or the hobbies they partake in.

Armed with these tips, we hope going back into the office is a little less daunting for you and your health. Always remember to put your health first.
